From the start of this game it was the Sports' forwards who looked dominant but the resolute Police defence held off a ten minute barrage of attacks. It was Matthew Murphy who unlocked it when after good forward possession, he slipped an inside ball to veteran centre Geraint Lewis to score half way out. Townley failed to add points. 0-5 to the Sports.From the restart skipper Anthony Isaac made hard yards through the home defense and forced them to infringe at a ruck. Townley stuck a good penalty to make it 0-8.
The Police then had their best spell forcing the Sports back time and time again but missed two 'kickable' penalties before Jamie Williamson landed a one. The half time score at 3-8 reflected an even first period.
At the start of the second half Matthew Murphy picked up a quick pass from Owain Price and made the outside break look easy as he scored wide out. At this stage a few tries 'went begging' for the Sports with a final pass adjudged forward and a foul spotted after a neat chip by Murphy for Leigh Owen to touch down. It was Townley who dominated the final quarter when from full back he joined the line at speed to score under the posts. He added the point making it 3-20.
The Sports were looking dangerous with every move and when Tudor Harris drove through the Police pack it was substitute scrum half Owen Pengilly who supported him and side-stepped three or four defenders to score a 'flying try' which Townley added to with his conversion. 3-27. Matthew Channel had replace Gary Punter and was impressing himself on the tight forward drives. He was rewarded with the final try of the game when he drove over from five yards out with good driving support from Harris and Dowling. Townley made the final score 3-37 with his personal tally 17 points.
