The Sports Club started this match at some pace and after ten minutes from a quickly taken short penalty Owain Price spun the ball to Owen Pengilly to score in the corner. Murphy failed with the conversion. Gareth Rees quickly replied for Cardiff when the Sports missed a couple of tackles. Adams failed with his kick. The Sports had a few penalty chances but were unable to build a lead.

When the hard grafting Sports front row turned over Cardiff ball it was Price again who widened the attack and fed captain Anthony Isaac who galloped over in the corner. This time Murphy was back to form and made it 5 -12 to the visitors. The Sports extened their lead when from another good drive by the front five, it was Chris Norris who slipped a neat inside pass to Steve Hearne who drove over the whitewash in style. Murphy added the points and at 5 -19 the Sports must have thought the game was won. Cardiff had different ideas and seemed get a wake-up call.

From an old fashioned 'foot-rush' from Cardiff centre David Beacock, the Sports failed to clear their line and Jones won the chase to score half way out. Fly half Adams added the points. Now it was the Sports who had to defend a quickly taken penalty, after they handled in the loose, and when Franklin evaded a couple of Sports tackles he squezzed over in the corner. The kick by Adams was a fine one making the score 19-19 with 5 minutes remaining.

The final action followed another fly hack through the Sports line by Adams and when Steve Hearne gathered, he tried to run the ball to safety... got caught... failed to release the ball... penalty given. Up steps Adams and the rest is history. 22-19 to the home side.
