Cwmgwrach 22 Sports 38

It took just 5 minutes from the Sports 22 to open up the Cwmgwrach defence with Matthew Murphy and Chris Davies widening the attack down the right wing. Cwmgwrach killed the ball and from a quick penalty by Townley there was support from Dowling and he passed to Wallis to score under the posts.

Townley converted. 0-7. From the restart Cwmgwrach lost their discipline and picked up two yellow cards for dissent. Playing for field positions Cwmgwrach kept the Sports frustrated as they tried to take of advantage of the extra players.
Punter, voted player of the year last week, picked the ball from the ruck and ran from his own 22 metre line, chipped over the defence and in a classic 'foot rush' drove the ball to the Cwmgwrach line with Townley getting the touchdown and adding the points. 0-14.

The next action involved No.8, Anthony Isaac taking the ball blind from a scrum, linking with right wing Chris 'Dev" Davies who made 20 yards and then a neat pass to Michael 'Mitch' John to score a try that again Townley converted.

There followed a spell of indifferent loose play from both sides and Cwmgwrach had the last say of the half when fly half Wayne Phillips squeezed through the Sports defence for a unconverted try making the half time score 5-21.
Five minutes into the half Cwmgwrach robbed the Sports of possession and scrum half Rhodri Morris chipped over the advancing Sports threes, gathered the ball and scored a fine individual try. Wayne Phillips added the points 12-21.

Both sides were playing open running rugby and when veteran centre Geraint Lewis made an interception on his own 22 metre line, he did well to get to within 10 metres of the home line before being buried by 4 Cwmgwrach players.
But they killed the ball and Townley added 3 points from the penalty. Cwmgwrach then produced the try of the game when the Sports kicked away good possession and left winger Thomas caught the ball in his own 22, he was supported by Cwmgwrach's man of the match Rhodri Morris, who with a great turn of speed blistered his way down the left wing catching the Sports a bit flat footed.

He was well supported by number 8, Griffiths and skipper Williams who scored half way out. 17-24. The Sports kept attacking from deep positions and when Mitch dummied the whole of the Cwmgwrach threes it was winger Dev Davies who was at hand to make the overlap look easy. Townley added the points 17-31.

Then Ryan Wallis ripped the ball from the heart of the Cwmgwrach pack and set off on a 20 metre run, widening the attack for substitute Chris Adrian to show a clead pair of heels to the Cwmgwrach winger and score a try that Townley converted taking his total to 18 points and the Sports total to 38.

It was left to Cwmgwrach to have the last say when from a line out on the Sports line the robust Andrew Thomas drove the ball for a well deserved try making the final score 22-38.
Mention must be made of Townley, who, at scrum half, not only played out of his regular position also played against the best scrum half we have seen in our league this season . and still managed to score 18 points.
