Sports 57 Crynant 5
From the outset of this final game of the season the running intent of the Sports was obvious.
After 10 minutes with good handling from the pack the ball was switched wide and found, prop, Rhys Brewer lurking on the wing where he crashed over for the first try in the corner.
Captain for the day, Nathan Townley kicked superbly from the touchline. 7-0.
Anthony 'Zac' Isaac was playing at centre and looking menacing, and it was he who run at the opposing out-half and switched a neat ball inside for the ever-present Gary Punter to score. Townley made it 14-0.
When Crynant thwarted a Sports attack with a deliberate knock on it was Townley who then took his tally to 7 with the conversion.
The last 10 minutes of the half were very flat and scrappy as both sides lost the shape of their game and the Sports lost concentration when they were pushed off their own ball and a quick thinking Crynant back row linked well with the threes for winger Ceri Moses to dash over in the corner.
Craig Davies failed with the kick. During this period of play the Sports kicked too much and were unable to score on three occasions in a 'two on one' attacking situation.
Making the half time score 17-5.From the re-start it was Crynant who looked the more determined as the Sports stayed in a 'sleep mode',
then Crynant started kicking away possession and when Scott Narbeth picked up a loose kick on his 22 metre line, he made 30 yards before off-loading to Jamie Lorrimer who ran through two men and around another for a fine try.
A rare Townley miss kept the score down. From the kick off it was speed merchant Geraint Lewis who made the break again from deep in the Sports half and with Matthew Murphy in support they ran deep into the Crynant half and off loaded to 'Mitch' John to score half way out.
Townley was back on target to make it 29-5. Crynant continued to kick badly and Narbeth again started a run from his own line, this time supported by Murphy, Mitch and the 'Players Player of the year', Wallis who neatly switched it to Lewis who found good support from Murphy to score under the posts. Townley adding the points.
Crynant at this stage had no answer as the Sports stepped up the pace.
Once again it was Narbeth running with great determination who split the Crynant defence and this time he needed no support to score a great individual try.
Townley making the extra points. Townley was soon in the action again when from 15 metres out he took a quick penalty which centres Zac and Geraint Lewis carried on and support from substitute Matthew Channel ending the move which Townley converted. We then saw a counter attack from Crynant in the dying minutes but poor handling saw Mitch collect a loose ball on his own 22 and run the length of the field for the final try of the game and the season, with the final score after the Townley conversion being 57-5. Man of the match was Scott Narbeth, who in the after match warm down was described by club coach Rhys Dowling saying " I told you if you get the ball to Narbeth... he will score" It was a good tone to end a slightly disapointing season for the Sports.
