Early pressure in this game was from Blaengarw and they missed two chances of taking the lead through easy penalties but failed. When Mark Harris provided quick ball from a line out Geraint Lewis popped an inside pass to Ian Hearne who carved his way through the defence to score under the posts. Nathan townley adding the points. 7-0. Ian Hearne made a hard tackle on the full back who handled in the ruck and Townley made it 10-0. The Sports were driven back and forced to handle and Nathan Gronow pulled back the visitors to 10-3

 

New captain Anthony Isaac turned over the ball at the back of the scrum, fed Matthew Channell who gave wing Stephen Hearne a lot to do but he did it from 20 metres out and rounded the defence to score under the posts. Townley made it 17- 3. Stephen Hearne then made a flat run which, after a probing drive by Scott Narbeth was to end after superb handling as the second try for his brother Ian. With the conversion Townley made it 24-3 at halftime


After the restart a mistake by the Sports on their own line was recovered by Geraint Lewis who opted to open up rather than play safe and it resulted in a try in the corner for Matthew Murphy, the kick failed. Blaengarw at this stage were asking lots of questions of the Sports forwards with their close running game are were rewarded with a try by Darell Burroughs. The kick failed making it 29-8. When Chapman delivered good lineout ball to Murphy it was Geraint Lewis who switched it inside and Ryan Wallace who scored a fine try in the corner. A fantastic kick by Townley put the score to 36-8.

 

The Sports were playing well and it looked like a training practice move when a pin point Murphy chip over the opposition threes allowed Townley to gather and dive over in the corner. His kick was again great. It was now time for Isaac to show a turn of speed when he drove through the visitors defence, ran 40 yards before feeding Murphy to score under the posts. Townley converted. 50 -8.

 

The final try for the Sports was the hat trick for Ian Hearne who took a quick ball from a ruck and although he had good support produced a fine hand off to open the wat through the defence. The kick failed. It was Blaengarw who had the last 'say' they never stopped trying and turned ove Sports ball from 5 metres out and skipper Richard Morgan dived over. Gronow converting for a final score of 55-15. Although Ian Hearne had a fine game it was Matthew Channell who got man of the match for his tireless tackling and ground ball playing.
