Baglan 3 Sports 20

A blustery day at Baglan was always going to be a trial for any kicking game and, of course, fielding the the high ball would be equally as difficult. This is exactly what happened. Early pressure from the Sports was well defended by Baglan and when they made in- roads to the Sports half, were rewarded with a penalty for an offside. Ian Bleding made no mistake in the difficult conditions. The Sports continued their thrusts and driving with Gary Punter prominent once again. Within 5 minutes the positions had reversed and Baglan were guilty of the offside and Nathan Townley stepped up to level the scores.

This was Townley’s last contribution, as an injury forced him to leave the field and the Sports re-organised their threes. Jayce Evans took over at fly half and Ritchie Burne came on as Ryan Morgan switched from wing to full back. This re-arranging disrupted the team for a while but Evans took over the kicking to take the Sports to a 3-6 just before half time. The Sports forwards gained control after the interval with some fine work in the tight from Ryan Wallis and Phil John before Jamie Lorrimer made a decisive drive through the opposition pack to score a try that Evans converted. Once again the Sports defence was on form and the home side were never looking like they would score.
When Gary Punter picked up a loose ball and drove to the line and Evans converted, the game was over. The final score of 3-20 will satisfy the coaching team but the lack of bonus points may come back to haunt the Sports in their quest for promotion.
