Sports 2nd XV 24 Heol-Y-Cyw 2nds 36
Bridgend Sports 2nds went into this game at a glorious sun soaked bandstand field full of optimism after 2 fine wins in their previous 2 games, however things were to pan out quite differently than expected.
After having 25 players to choose from at their previous game, the sports management were quite shocked to only have 12 players turn up for duty. Some players had been called up to the first team for their Swalec cup game at Dowlais but others were just unaccounted for.
However Heol-Y-cyw together with a very supportive referee generously agreed to an 11 a-side 60 minute game.
With both teams 4 players down there was certainly plenty of open space available, and Adrian brothers Chris and Ben needed little encouragement to implement the Sports' brand of free flowing rugby, although their afternoons were to end quite differently. Ben was the victim of a heavy tackle early in the game and spent much of the rest of the game on the touchline wondering where he was, this left the fixture as a 10 a-side game as Heol-Y-Cyw sportingly removed one of their players to keep the sides at equal numbers.
Chris Adrian then became the star of the show running in 3 long range tries which must surely see him pushing for first team selection. Mention must also be made of the solid contribtions by the ever reliable and popular Andrew Ward and Matthew Thomas whose experience was the solid foundation for the younger player's flair.
After what turned out to be a fine afternoon of free flowing rugby the final score was 'estimated' to be 36-24, but nobody (including the excellent referee) was entirely sure !
