Sports 2nd XV 31 Baglan XV 21

In a hastily arranged friendly fixture, Sports 2nds entertained a Baglan XV fielding a handful of 1st team players. A massive Sports squad put in a spirited performance in front of a good crowd at the Bandstand. Sports were up and running early as an early snipe from scrum half James Aitken saw him run in unopposed from the 22yrd line to score under the posts. Simon Partridge easily converted.

Good Sports forward play in the loose got the three-quarter line running at the defence and the resulting drive 5 metres out saw flanker Jay Dent ground the ball for his 2nd try in two matches. Again Partridge converted. With Sports confidence high, a mistake in midfield saw Baglan centre Nathan Dare pick up a loose pass to run in for the visitors first converted score. With 10 mins of the half remaining Baglan levelled the scores when wing Christian Milton plucked a wayward clearance kick from the air to run down the line unopposed, again the try was converted.

The game was started to even out with Baglan flanker Rhys Langford causing havoc in attack with some prominent runs. Just before the break, home centre Paul Jurkiewicz carved an opening after some smart handling by the back line. This time the conversion going wide. 19-14 up at half time, Sports again started the brighter and some changes in personnel added extra impotence.

Some battling displays from the home pack saw the Sports control the ball at the ruck and maul area with great effect. Reward soon came as Man of the Match Jurkiewicz scored his second of the afternoon, unconverted. The game should have been secured at this point but Baglan had other ideas and a rather fortunate interception saw Langford run in from 60metres to take the visitors within 3 points.

A nervy last 10minutes was eventually settled when wing Ben Adrian finished off a great team try and scored out wide. Partridge beautifully converting from the restrictive angle to make the final score Sports 31 Baglan 21.
