Bryncethin 18 Sports 13

From the kick off Bryncethin were sharper. After less than 7 minutes they were 7points up after a Matthew Murphy clearance was charged down by Lloyd Jenkings. Matthew Pearce converting. There were more than 20 penalties against Bryncethin for Ruck and maul infringements. And the travelling he supporters could not understand why there were no yellow cards.... we think the Ref forgot them.

The Sports tackling was dire and it seemed that two warm up games had only honed their attacking skills whilst defence was left in the changing room. Bryncethin played well with the wind and slope in the first half and were playing the game the Sports wanted to play.but were reduced to just a drop goal by Andrew Veasey in the second half. The Sports did not take advantage of the wind and slope in the second half and their kicking out-of-hand was terrible. Lloyd Jenkins for Bryncethin was possible MOMatch. Shrugging off tackle after tackle. He is a Big man for full back. Punter and Wallis were good for the Sports but the critical point was when at the end of the first half, Punter made a great break from No. 8, supported well by Wallis at open side but he was robbed and turned over by Bryncethin with ease.

From the following movement Bryncethin quickly widened the ball for left wing Russel John to outpace the cover. That was the measure of the two sides. An opportunist interception by Mitch John took the Sports to 10 points following an earlier Mattew Murphy penalty. Bryncethin played the ref well. Deserved to win by more than 5 points. However at the final whistle Ryan Wallis did actually score. It would have made the final score 18-17. Which would really have flattered the Sports. A canny penalty taken on full time allowed the visitors to gain a bonus point.

From Bryncethin’s point of view they were equally upset with the ref who added on 10-12 minutes on injury time. But it was not enough for a below par Sports side to capitalise on. If Banwen can get a side together next week, the Sports will be looking to improve in one or two areas, which we know they are quite capable of doing.
