After several attempts, Manchester City have finally completed the signing of Leicester city winger, Riyad Mahrez for a record fee of £60m. The premier champions confirmed this on their official website. Riyad Mahrez to City first sufficed during the January winter transfer when the player submitted a transfer request to Leicester City.
This did not go well and it was dragged till the end of that transfer window which eventually did not materialize in an agreement by both parties.
The 27 year old Algerian have always wanted the deal and this happening now is definitely making the former PFA player of the year delighted. Moving for a fee of £60m makes him the most expensive player in the history of Manchester City, taking him beyond the £57m when Aymeric Laporte joined the Etihad side.
Mahrez will don the number 26 jersey, same as he worn at Leicester City. The Algerian will be moving to City with the aim of winning the premier league with them and by so doing, defending their title. Despite having several issues with Leicester City when his move to City failed last January, he still went on to score 13 goals and provided 11 assists in the premier league for the Foxes.
Mahrez quality was never in doubt and that is obvious to everyone. It was just his attitude during the transfer saga that raise questions over his attitude. He was told to stay away from the first team training for a period of 10 days. It is understandable that when a player want to make a move out of a club, all sort of things of things are done but he went overboard.
With his move now completed, he is expected to show the world once again that his quality is never in doubt.
