According to reports from The Daily Mail, Tottenham are preparing a summer swoop for Watford midfielder, Abdoulaye Doucoure. The 25-year-old midfielder and impressed this term, playing well for a Watford side that has flirted with relegation all season.
Spurs boss, Mauricio Pochettino was on a scouting mission at Vicarage Road on Monday night, turning up to see the former Rennes player in action, and after seeing him star in the 4-1 win over Chelsea, it is believed that the North Londoners will make a bid upwards of £20m to stave off interest from the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.
Doucoure was in sensational form against the Premier League champions, as he looked a notch above the likes of Kante and Fabregas. The Frenchman’s contract at The Vicarage Road ends in the summer of 2020, and it is believed that the Watford hierarchy want to extend his deal and tie him to the club on a contract worth more than £60,000 a week. Should they decide to sell, however, they will only let him go on a big-money move knowing that the country’s big clubs are after his signature.
Reports suggest that he will cost more than £20m, which is the amount the club got for selling Nigerian international, Odion Ighalo to Chinese Super League outfit, Changchun Yatai last year. Doucoure is a box-to-box midfielder known for his attacking and defensive prowess in the middle of the park and has been compared to Manchester City legend, Yaya Toure due to the way he runs with the ball and physicality.
He will be a valuable addition to any big club, as he has loads of potential to become one of the best players in the league.
