Real Madrid captain, Sergio Ramos has hit back at the club’s critics after the European champions came from behind to beat French outfit, PSG. Los Blancos defeated the Neymar-led team 3-1 on the night, courtesy of a brace from Ronaldo.
Spanish defender, Sergio Ramos insisted critics should never write off Real Madrid after their crucial 3-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Despite having won the competition in the last two years, PSG were considered slight favorites for the clash given that Madrid have disappointed in the La Liga and were trumped to the top of their group by Tottenham.
The two European heavyweights met at the Bernabeu on Tuesday in arguably the glamour tie of the last-16 stage. Adrien Rabiot put the Ligue 1 giants ahead, Madrid showed character and desire to fight back, as a Ronaldo brace coupled with another from Marcelo put them in the driving seat for the clash.
Ramos said as quoted by AS, ‘It was an important victory,’ . ‘These are Champions League days to be remembered and what better way to do it than with this personality and this important win. ‘We have a serious team. We’ve done a great job and the result is fair.
We had that effectiveness in front of goal that we’ve been missing in other games, we joined the lines… congratulations to the team for their work.” ‘There’s no time for regrets,’. ‘Despite the goal, we kept looking for the win with a lot of personality. You can never take Madrid for dead.’ He added.
Real Madrid will be looking to win the reverse fixture in Paris to take them to the quarterfinals to stand them in their dream of winning the competition for the third consecutive time.
