Manchester United are lining up a move for Napoli midfielder Jorginho ahead of a potential summer move.
With Michael Carrick set to retire at the end of the season and the future of Marouane Fellaini uncertain after failing to agree a new contract, Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his midfield option with at least two new central midfielders in the summer.
Liverpool are believed to be front-runners to sign Jorginho in the summer with Jurgen Klopp earmarking him as a direct replacement for Emre Can whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season and could be on his way to Serie A giants Juventus in the summer.
However, the Star suggests that the Special One is keen on bringing in an enforcer this summer and he is ready to steal a march on the Reds for the signature of the Jorginho.
It is understood that the Red Devils will test Napoli’s resolve with an initial bid of £50 million in a bid to lure the Italian to the Theatre of Dreams.
Since moving to the Stadio San Paolo from Hellas Verona for an undisclosed fee in 2014, he has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the Serie A.
The 26-year-old is known for his composure, versatility, creativity, work rate, vision, excellent passing accuracy, technique, and break down opposition play.
He is often deployed as an anchor man but when used in a deep-lying play maker role he dictates the tempo of the game more with his short and horizontal passing game.
Jorginho has featured in 32 games across all competitions for Napoli this season scoring four times and providing the same number of assists.
Given his age and quality, he would be a perfect partner for Nemanja Matic in the middle of the park and will allow Paul Pogba play more in an advanced role.
