The future of Liverpool goalkeeper, c is up for question as the Reds manager, Jurgen Klopp has offered no assurances to the shotstopper. Mignolet has lost his number 1 spot to Loris Karius in recent weeks, and was initially thought to be favoured for the Champions League clash with Portuguese giants, Porto.
Klopp had confirmed that he will abandon his goalkeeper rotation policy for cup competitions, meaning that there is no chance of Mignolet keeping goal until the end of the season unless Karius suffers an injury.
Wednesday’s clash at the Dragon Stadium in Porto is very important as it would offer a glimpse to the progress of Liverpool, who have scored goals for fun in this season’s competition. Mignolet started the season as number 1, but was part of a Liverpool defence that conceded goals for fun at the tail end of last year.
The arrival of Virgil Van Dijk and the installation of Karius ad the number 1 has helped Liverpool get better defensively. Reports have suggested that Mignolet will be sold this summer, though Klopp refused to get drawn into speculation about the goalkeeper.
Speaking on Tuesday night after being asked whether Mignolet still had a future at Anfield , he said,
“Nobody knows about the future, or I don’t know about the future, ‘In this business it is always the same – it says nothing about that. ‘It’s not for me to think about these kind of things.
I have to make a decision for tomorrow night and that’s all. No problem.’ Karius has overcome the challenges that affected his early career in Merseyside and has become the undisputed number 1 at the club.
Mignolet joined Liverpool back in 2013 and is known for his shotstopping though his decision making has tainted him as an error-prone goalkeeping.
