Fernando Torres remains hopeful that Atletico Madrid can keep hold of French forward Antoinne Griezmann amid links to European giants Manchester United and Barcelona respectively.
The Wanda Metropolitano outfit is believed to have reported Barcelona to football governing body FIFA over the pursuit of their star man, although it is understood that 20-time Premier League Manchester United have cooled interest in the Frenchman after a move failed to materialize in the summer.
However, despite the level of uncertainty surrounding Antoinne Griezmann’s future at the Wanda Metropolitano, strike partner Fernando Torres believes Atletico Madrid can keep their most prized asset away from the claws of Spanish giants Barcelona.
Speaking on Antoinne Griezmann’s future, he said:
“Atletico can sign and retain the world’s best players, as we have shown,” He also added.
“Griezmann is still here at the club and we all want him to stay of course, but you would have to ask him on his future and what he wants to do next.”
Griezmann’s current contract at the Wanda Metropolitano expires in 2022 and it is understood he has a release clause of €100 million.
The French international has endured a stop-start season to the new campaign having scored just nine goals in 22 appearances for the Los Rojiblancos across all competitions.
Since moving to Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad for a reported fee of £24 million in the summer of 2014, he has established himself as a regular for the Diego Simeone led side and has also developed into one of the best strikers in the world.
Despite losing 1-0 to Portugal in the final of the European Championship, the 27-year- old played a starring role for France having finished as top scorer of the tournament with 6 goals and 2 assists in 7 games, and was also named as the most valuable player of the tournament.
He is often deployed as a centre forward but can also play as a Winger and he is known for his finishing, pace, positioning, work rate, excellent heading abilities, technique, vision, versatility and good link-up play.
With Diego Costa set to complete his move to the Wanda Metropolitano in the winter transfer window, should Atletico Madrid lose Antoinne Griezmann to Barcelona next month, Diego Costa will be a suitable replacement for the wantaway striker.
