Newcastle suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat at home to high-flying Watford on Saturday as the woes of the Rafael Benitez tutored side continued. Goals from Will Hughes, Andre Gray and an own goal from American international, DeAndre Yedlin.
It continued a miserable run of results for the Magpies who have now lost their last 4 league matches, scoring once in the process.
Watford have earned plaudits for their performances this season under Marco Silva, and the young Portuguese coach enhanced his increasing reputation with a superior game plan to Rafa Benitez. Hughes, the former Derby midfielder scored for the second consecutive game, as The Hornets proved too much for their Northern hosts. On 19 minutes, Marvin Zeegelar was played in down the left flank courtesy of a brilliant crossfield pass by Kabasele.
Zeegelar pulled the ball back for Hughes, who hit it hard and low to goal. On the stroke of halftime, Watford doubled their advantage after the brilliant Zeegelar embarked on a good run down the Watford left.
He sent in a delicious cross to the box, and it seemed as if Yedlin would avert the danger, but he inexplicably turned it behind Rob Elliot. Newcastle looked like a team beaten after the break, and it was deservedly three-nil in the 62 nd minute after prodding home a cross from Richarlison.
Benitez made one change to the starting 11 with Senegalese midfielder, Mo Diame coming in for Isaac Hayden. Benitez has now lost consecutive Premier League matches for only the second time in his Premier League managerial career, with the first coming when he lost to Chelsea and Manchester United back in 2005 as manager of Liverpool.
Newcastle drop to 13th place with 14 points whole Watford continue their march up the table after amassing 21 points.
