Following back-to- back losses against Manchester City and Crystal Palace in the Premier League, Chelsea were on the cusp of a third straight defeat before a Michy Batshuayi’s double capped a resilient Chelsea display as they fought back from 2-1 down to beat Watford 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.
It was a brilliant start for the Blues after a curling effort from Pedro Rodriguez put the Premier League champions ahead in the 12th minute, but in the first-half of stoppage time, in-form midfielder Abdoulaye Doucore capitalized on a lack of concentration from the Chelsea defenders by smashing in a close range volley in the 47th minute to restore parity for the visitors.
Meanwhile, four minutes into the second-half, the Hornets took the lead in dramatic fashion as Brazilian winger Richarlison squared in a beautiful assist for an unmarked Roberto Pererya to put the ball past Thibaut Courtois in the 49th minute.
However, out of favor striker Michi Batshuayi came off the bench to restore parity for the hosts with a beautiful header in the 71st minute while late goals from Cesar Azplicueta and Batshuayi in the 87th and 95th minute respectively secured a dramatic win for the Blues.
A win has catapulted Antonio Conte’s men into fourth place on the log and super sub Michi Batshuayi will be hoping to get the nod ahead of Spanish forward, Alvaro Morata in the starting line-up as the west London club host Everton in the fourth round tie of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
Antonio Conte will be delighted with the progress his team is making right now. A push for the title is not far fetch and if the likes of Hazard pick form fully, we might be seeing the Chelsea of last season anytime soon.
